DJ Keith’s Wedding Music Planning Guide

I'm excited to help guide you through the process, particularly when it comes to music and the day's overall flow. Planning such a momentous occasion can indeed be daunting, but remember, it's also an opportunity to personalize and create a memorable event.

Let's start with an outline of your day, which will help us understand the sequence of events and thus make it easier to choose the appropriate music.

Pre-Ceremony or Guest Arrival (approximately 30 minutes prior to the ceremony): I play gentle background music that can create a welcoming ambiance as your guests arrive.

Ceremony:

Processional (Entrance of the Bridal Party): This music sets the tone for the ceremony. You might consider a traditional piece or something more personal to you both.

Bride's Entrance: A momentous part of the day which could feature a separate song to highlight its significance.

Recessional (Exit): Something upbeat and joyful to celebrate your newly married status!

Cocktail Hour: This is a chance to play some of your favorite songs that didn't make it into the ceremony. Music should be lively but not overpowering, as guests will be mingling and chatting.

Reception/Dinner: I have several lists prepared and typically pick one that fits the group but feel free to share ideas or lists if this is something you would like to curate

First Dance: This song is highly personal and often has sentimental value. Take your time in selecting this one.

Father-Daughter & Mother-Son Dances: Traditional, sentimental songs usually work best.

Party/Dance Floor: This part of the night is about fun! Think about what your guests would enjoy – a good mix of classics, current hits, and any personal favorites. I recommend a list of about 20 of your favorite songs but feel free so send over as little or as many as you like. Feel free to send over an Apple Music or Spotify link if you use those services.

Dollar Dance, Bouquet/Garter Toss: Fun, light-hearted songs add a touch of whimsy to these events.

Last Dance: End the night on a high note with a song that has meaning to you both, or one that will get everyone on the dance floor.

Of course all these are all optional and we can certainly add or remove certain sections to fit your vision.

It's also important to consider your audience when selecting songs. While the day is about you two, ensuring that the music is enjoyable for all your guests contributes to a memorable event for everyone.

Once you've thought about the outline of your day and possible songs for each moment, we can further refine the list together.

Remember, the aim is to create a day that represents you as a couple. So while I'm here to guide you, your personal taste should shine through in the final decisions.

Looking forward to helping you plan your big day!

DJ Keith :)
